NUANCE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
The Nuance Fellowship is a professional development program for young (im)migrant, racialized, and LGBTQQIA writers, artists, and community builders in Toronto and the GTA.
Throughout the program Nuance Fellows participate in skill-building workshops, engage in discussions on difficult issues such as mental health and sexuality, and hone their writing or artistic craft by publishing in the Nuance publication - a platform that is increasingly being recognized in popular media (featured on the homepage of Medium) and in the art, health, and youth sectors.
WHAT ARE WE WORKING ON?
WHO ARE WE?
New Understandings (NU) is a grassroots group of 1st and 2nd generation (im)migrant young people and friends focused on improving the wellbeing of our communities. We are united by our deep identification with, and empathy for the internal and external struggles of having to navigate complex issues such as sexuality, identity, mental health, and sexual health in the context of our native cultures and Canadian upbringing.
We are always looking for people who are passionate about breaking cultural barriers and actioning local change to join us! Send us an email at email@example.com explaining how you heard about us, why you're interested and a quick summary of the skills you bring to the table.
SUPPORT OUR WORK
We are grateful for our funding from the Youth Opportunities Fund that enables us to pay our Nuance contributors and run our fellowship program. If you wish to make a donation to our work, we will put your funds towards expanding Nuance into uncharted territory of conversations around stigmatized issues or possibly funding new initiatives that fit within our vision. We are thankful for what you are able and choose to provide.
Full disclosure, we are not incorporated or a registered charity. We are an independent community of writers, artists, and activists, bound by a mutual vision, and working to achieve the same goal of breaking down barriers to achieving holistic health and well-being. Diversifying our funds beyond grant funding ensures we are answering to our mission and the voices we serve.
